Proposal Information

Description:

Summary: Interns will be given a hands-on, interesting and substantive learning experience and will clerk for a Hearing Officer, assisting in drafting decisions after a Fair Hearing, performing legal research where required, and such other legal functions as dictated by the needs of the Office. This would be an excellent placement for students interested in Administrative Law, public policy and Social Services Law.

Internship Description: Interns for the Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH) will be assigned to either a Hearing Officer or Supervising Hearing Officer. The interns will receive at least two days of computer training to be able to use the Fair Hearings Decision Management System (FHDMS) to assist with decision drafting. Additionally, interns will observe Fair Hearings conducted by a Hearing Officer and assist Hearing Officers or Supervising Hearing Officers with any legal research or other appropriate legal functions that a Supervising Hearing Officer overseeing the interns assigned to each office may require.

Job Duties:
* Assist with decision drafting using FHDMS under the supervision of a Hearing Officer or Supervising Hearing Officer
* Observe Fair Hearings to learn about OAH procedures and the hearing process
* Assist with any task requiring legal research
* Assist with other appropriate legal functions that a Supervising Hearing Officer overseeing the interns assigned to each office may require.
Funding: This is an unpaid internship opportunity. However, applicants may secure their own funding and are encouraged to do so. Examples of possible funding sources include:
